History

Teknikor was born in 2010 from the merger of four companies (Gemco, ECS, Action Energy and PFP. With this merger, each company became a division of Teknikor: Gemco became Teknikor Contracting; ECS became Teknikor Automation and Controls; Action Energy became Teknikor Energy Solutions; and PFP became Teknikor Electrical Maintenance and Testing. However to fully understand our history you need to go back to 1966 when Gemco was founded by Philip E. Pellitier. As one of many electrical contractors in the Southeastern Massachusetts area, Pellitier separated his company from the pack by building a reputation of not being afraid of any project. This “can do” spirit created long term relationships, many of which are still going strong today. In order to become a more powerful resource, Gemco added mechanical contacting capabilities in the 1970’s.
Recognizing a void in the systems integration and automation services market, Gemco entered into a partnership to create Engineered Control Systems (ECS) in 1989. They saw an opportunity to offer an alternative to the “big guys”, providing top quality service and products but with a more personalized approach. By being more responsive, understanding their clients business, and being dedicated to building long-term relationships, ECS built a reputation within the industry as a premier provider.
In the more recent decades, Action Energy and Power & Fire Protection (PFP) were established as additional complementary, sister companies to Gemco and ECS. Action Energy was established just as corporate and industrial energy management became a boardroom-level topic of discussion. PFP was founded to offer expertise in electrical maintenance and testing as a critical strategy for ensuring a safe working environment and avoiding serious, and costly, downtime due to equipment or system failure.
2011 and 2012 has proved to be an exciting period for Teknikor as the dynamics of the company continue to change. Teknikor’s Energy Solutions division was sold to Horizon Solutions, a firm that specializes in electrical and industrial distribution and value-added services throughout the Northeast. With this sale, Teknikor became Horizon’s strategic partner, able to utilize its relationships, strengths and resources which in turn benefits other Teknikor clients when seeking energy solutions.
Next, Teknikor added a new division called Precision Alignment. This was made possible by the acquision of Oxford Engineering, a premier precision machinery alignment company. Thanks to Oxford’s years of experience providing alignment services (critical to machine efficiency), Teknikor can now offer this service as the newest part of our family of multi-disciplinary divisions.
Most recently, Teknikor opened a new Midwest office in the northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area to support the company’s long-term growth strategy. The firm is partnering with veteran industrial engineer and project manager Tim Tanner who joins the company as President of Midwest operations.
From the beginning, our success has been a result of dedication and commitment to our customers – something which will remain constant as we move forward. One company, acting synergistically. One company that’s greater than the sum of its divisions.
