Teknikor got its start in 1966 when electrical contractor Philip E Pelletier started Gemco Electric, based in Fall River Massachusetts.
Gemco was formed to meet the electrical needs of southern New England’s extensive industrial business, and its customer base grew quickly. During this time, Phil realized that his customers required a more comprehensive solution to their ever changing infrastructure and equipment needs. They were happy with Gemco’s electrical services and regularly asked if Gemco could install or mechanically pipe their machinery.
In 1974 Gemco expanded its capabilities to meet those needs. Over the next 15 years, Gemco grew and became a leading electrical and mechanical contractor in southern New England.
In 1988, Philip again recognized an opportunity; he saw that his customers’ sought faster and more reliable machinery. Philip partnered with his son Philip J., a recent graduate of WPI’s Electrical Engineering program, and Ken Potvin to form Engineered Control Systems (ECS), an automation and controls company that specialized in manufacturing. For the next 10 years, ECS and Gemco grew, working together to service manufacturing’s electrical, mechanical and controls needs.
In 1998, with the sudden death of Philip E Pelletier, Philip J. Pelletier joined Gemco as president. Over the next 12 years, Gemco and ECS continued to prosper and even added additional services to solidify itself as a true turn-key electrical, mechanical, rigging, relocation and controls contractor servicing both national and international manufacturing companies.
In 2010, Gemco and ECS merged to become Teknikor, which further enhanced its standing as a turn-key service provider when Tim Tanner joined the firm in 2012. Tim’s vast industrial knowledge, with over 25 years in process and equipment, has given Teknikor that final piece of the puzzle it needed to become a truly one-stop shop for all electrical, mechanical, rigging, relocation, alignment, controls, equipment and process needs.
